26th July 2021

Do you have something to say about North Birmingham? We want to hear from you!

In preparation for our Bus Boycott Block Party, our artist Jane Thakoordin has been having conversations and creating protest banners with local residents in Ladywood.

These conversations have touched on:

  • What does it mean to belong to a community?
  • Protest – What is it? Why do we do it? For what causes?
  • Intergenerational stories (within Caribbean and South Asian communities)

If you would like to get involved and create your own mini protest banner, drop in for our crafty and chatty workshop!

Where: Eat, Make, Play Centre
When: Saturday 7 August, 12pm – 2pm.

Jane’s work is part of Aksana’s and Diandra’s co-curated events programme which celebrates North Birmingham’s reputation of intergenerational activism. It’s inspired by current local residents and the landmark 1963 Bristol Bus Boycott.

Produced by China Plate in association with Birmingham Hippodrome.

This work is supported by Birmingham City Council.
