It’s Not Me, It’s You

It’s Not Me, It’s You
Written by Chris Thorpe
A live examination of how we construct a story to explain ourselves, versus how we construct the story we use to explain others – and how the difference between them is being weaponised to change the world.
It’s Not Me, It’s You is a solo show by Chris Thorpe based on research into the attribution fallacy – the tendency we have to impart complex, often positive narratives and justifications to our own actions, and simplistic, often negative narratives to the same actions in others. A tendency which has profound implications on the development and dismantling of democracy across the world.
A live experience that is funny, thought-provoking and is driven by a simple question – can we actually agree on what’s going on? Can we get into a room, listen to a story, and agree on its details – and can we talk about how our minds are working as we do it? If we can recognise how this psychological tendancy impacts our everyday lives and how it’s being exploited by the powerful– then we have the agency to change and resist it.
It’s Not Me, It’s You continues the themes of Chris’s previous solo work including Confirmation & Status which look to make the invisible frameworks we exist in in the ‘real’ world, visible. Chris will reunite with previous collaborators, director Claire O’ Reilly (A Family Business & Talking About The Fire) and Rachel Chavkin (Confirmation & Status) as dramaturg and will look to develop this in Autumn 2026 – Autumn 2027.
